Forbes released data on the richest people in Malaysia in 2024. Robert Kuok, a 100-year-old businessman, is still the number one richest person in the neighboring country.
His wealth reached US$ 11.5 billion or around Rp 184 trillion. Not long ago he reportedly bought a mall in Singapore with a value of US$ 412 million.
Then the second position is filled by Quek Leng Chan. Although his net worth fell by US$ 8.8 billion, he still remained in the number two position. Apart from the two of them, there are several name changes that fill the top 5 richest Malaysians.
Banker, Teh Hong Piow is now the richest man in Malaysia after displacing aluminum magnate, Koon Poh Keong who dropped to number 5 amid weakening prices and demand for the metal.
Then brothers Lee Yeow Chor and Yeow Seng with their property business entered the top five for the first time with revenues of US$5.35 billion.
Under the leadership of younger brother Yeow Seng, their listed property company has been quietly building up its portfolio in Singapore, and is set to open a multi-billion dollar office complex in the central business district.
Another businessman whose fortune more than tripled in a year is Francis Yeoh and his brother. He is the seventh richest person in Malaysia.
Overall, the assets of the 50 richest Malaysians increased by US$ 83.4 billion or around Rp 1,334 trillion (exchange rate Rp 16,000). This increase occurred because the Malaysian stock market also rose 9% in a year.
